D.ESCAL8TM run this annual update requirement as a one day workshop. Your updates will remain a single day providing that you maintain your certification within the 12 month stipulation.

Unlike some other systems D.ESCAL8TM customers receive this annual update as a one day workshop. Your updates will remain a single day providing that you maintain your certification within the 12 month stipulation.

However, after 3 years we suggest that you extend this update to take 2 days so that your staff can comprehensively refresh all their skills including stress training. This suggestion is also relevant in certain situations e.g. organisations who experience a change in service user group or who are opening a new establishment. We advise either training the staff all together again or a 2 day update to consolidate the group.

Modular Training Options

The following topics constitute training courses in their own right, however there is the option to add their content in to the DPR training days to make a course bespoke to your particular training needs.

Positive Behaviour Support

Positive Behaviour Support - Introduction

This one day workshop will give participants a solid understanding of positive behaviour support (PBS).

Positive Behaviour Support is the framework at the heart of D.ESCAL8TM training; delivering all care in a supportive and positive way even in crisis.

Participants are encouraged to put this approach at the centre of all care they provide and in all the work they do.

Advanced Behaviour Support Plans

Functional Behaviour Assessments & Positive behaviour interventions to teach replacement behaviours

  • Functional Behaviour Assessment
  • Model scenarios
  • Identification of the reinforcers
  • Functions of Behaviour

Course combined with DPR to cover all Proactive and Reactive elements.

Dual Diagnosis

Dual Diagnosis is a term that is used in many different areas, however in the field we work in we are specifically discussing people who have a Learning Disability and who may experience Mental Health issues.

This workshop is interspersed with exercises, video, presentation and discussion.

Autism

Autism Awareness Training

This course is a one day course giving an introduction to autism and the acceptance of Autistic people.

Autism manifests itself in a huge number of ways leading to a condition that is as individual to each autistic person as you are individually different to this author.

It is mainly public perception that has linked autism and distress. Therefore, while there are some "catch all" understandings around autism, the main focus should be on very individualised approaches to caring for and enabling people.

We use the term Autistic Person as research suggests it is preferred.

The term ‘autistic’ was endorsed by a large percentage of autistic adults, family members/friends and parents but by considerably fewer professionals; ‘person with autism’ was endorsed by almost half of professionals but by fewer autistic adults and parents.

Inset Days

Bespoke Inset Day

For Special Schools, PRUs and mainstream education.

Are you interested in an inset day that is informative, fun and memorable enough that staff are talking about it months afterwards?

Advanced Restrictive Physical Interventions

D.ESCAL8TM also provide individualised physical interventions as part of our bespoke consultancy. These are only discussed when a training needs analysis and behavioural audit highlight their need.

Bespoke physical interventions have been designed around individuals in special circumstances.

Examples of DPR fully risk assessed additional skills:

  • Chair Restraint Module

As with all our core skills, the Chair Restraint Module is fully risk assessed. When carers are using our core DPR foundation skills the need for this level of restraint is reduced considerably. Prior to delivery of this module staff must have completed the full foundation 3 day DPR.

  • Rapid Tranquilisation Protocol

As with all our core skills the Rapid Tranquilisation Protocol is fully risk assessed. This may be a necessary skill for staff working in particular settings. Prior to delivery of this protocol staff must have completed the full Chair Restraint Module. At a 'Skills for Care' national event in 2013, D.ESCAL8TM were the only company represented who delivered Rapid Tranquilisation Protocol training without the use of the floor.
